Accomplishments
Automatic Emergency Defibrillator
For a battery operated defibrillator, designed a very efficient high voltage power supply and solved the problems with the energy delivery circuit. Over 15,000 had be produced.
Alarm Company
Designed Gamewell’s first switching power supply in 2000 for use in their alarm systems. Power supply has been used in all follow on alarm systems.
Telcom Companies
During the dotcom boom, designed many hot plug circuits and dc/dc converters for communication boards. These designs went into production and worked flawlessly.
Project Leader
Project leader for a team that developed the power system for a large computer system. We came in ahead of schedule and ahead of the other teams on the project. I was responsible for the planing and schduling.
Purchase Specification
For Motorola, developed technical purchase specifications for buyouts of battery backup units that power residential and commercial FIOS systems. Detailed specifications did not exist before this.
Battery Chargers
Design battery chargers for various chemistries. A lithium battery pack and a lithium battery charger for commercial and one for military applications are currently in production and are wroking reliably.
Unusual Requirement
A flywheel company had a problem. They needed a way to slow a 100KW flywheel when ac power was not available. They also didn't want to spend much money since only one or two units would be built. The ideal would have been to design a constant power load but this approach would have been pricey in terms of engineering time. They had a commercial load that required 120Vac and they had a 48Vdc to 120Vac inverter so I designed an 800W converter that would operate from 32Vdc to 800Vdc, which is the output of the flywheel, with a 48Vdc output. This converter powered the inverter, steping the voltage up to 120Vac which powered the electronic load.
